Another film recently purchased on Blu-ray, it looks stunning in hi def, and the large panoramas really work as Leone lets things just sort of happen in front of his camera before pulling in tight on someone's eyes for the reaction shots.
Truly one of the best westerns ever made, and well worth a look to the few who haven't seen it.

Review:
All i got to say is:oh my god, what a movie. This is most spectacular, brilliant and influential western movie of all time with non-stop action and legendary perfomances.I was never a huge fan of westerns(just my father)but after i watched The Good,The Bad and the Ugly,i got hooked to Spaghetti Westerns, the genre created by the legendary Sergio Leone. The unique style and visual of this movie influenced a lot of directors including Robert Rodriguez with Desperado and Quentin Tarantino with Kill Bill vol 1 and 2 but can never be equal to the master that is Leone.

Clint Eastwood was absolutely amazing in the movie. He took once again his immortal role of Blondie, the most relentess and toughest gunfighter of the West. This is the role that made Eastwood the living legend that he is today, inspiring a lot of bad muthas in the silver screen.Nothing will beat Eastwood´s classic image with the hat, the cigar in the mouth and the gun in hand. Now that´s a badass in my opinion.I loved Lee Van Cleef in the movie as Angel Eyes.I first met him in Escape from New York but he´s a constant presence in the westerns. He will be always remembered as the West´s most toughest villain.
Sergio Leone is one hell of a director. He has such a unique style of filmmaking which is amazing. He´s the Kubrick of westerns in my opinion. The standoff scene between Blondie,Tuco and Angel Eyes is one of the best scenes of the film and also of cinematic history. That scene is so intense and spetacular and with Ennio Morricone´s amazing score makes it even more amazing. This movie grabed a lot and too bad they don´t make this kind of movies anymore. The Good The Bad and Ugly is the definitve western movie of all time and a landmark of cinematic history just like Raiders of Lost Ark for the adventure movies and Die Hard for the action movies.
This is no doubt of mind one of my favorite movies ever and i hope to see more Spaghetti westerns just as spectacular as this amazing masterpiece. The ultimate bad ass movie ever made by the master Sergio Leone. -

"You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig."
A bounty hunting scam joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in gold buried in a remote cemetery.REVIEW
Sergio Leone during his three decade career crafted five confirmed masterpieces out of the seven films he made total. His films are always profound, personal and meditative on the subject. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is perhaps his greatest achievement along with Once Upon A Time In America and Once Upon A Time In The West. If one is familiar with the western genre, they would recognize a number of signature camera techniques and music. Leone's film singlehandedly changed the way people viewed the western. The gun by the hand camera shot, the juxtaposed sweeping cinematography and sudden closeups. The iconic film score is a piece of music everyone has heard at one point in their lives even if they do not recognize it as being from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
It is poetic in every sense of the word. Leone's clear passion for the subject shines through in the lovingly crafted sets including an absolutely stunning Civil War sequence which is almost a film in itself. The plot is basically a simple treasure hunt which grows into a violent opera of betrayal, revenge, and greed. Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach share the knowledge of the whereabouts of $200,000 in Civil War blood money. They are partners and friends but they harbor a love/hate relationship and both men would be willing to betray and kill the other if it meant a profit. As a dying Confederate soldier confesses the location of the treasure, through a set of circumstances which I will not reveal, Eastwood (The Good) is given the name of the grave in which the loot is buried and Wallach (The Ugly) finds out where the cemetery is and as such they rely upon each other to be successful in the search. When Lee Van Cleef (The Bad), a ruthless killer and gun for hire, is able to find out where the graveyard containing the treasure is, it turns into a brutal race between the men to reach the treasure.
It stunningly mixes realism and the mythology of the west into an epic that will stand the test of time for years to come and takes its place among classics such as The Godfather and Raging Bull as one of the greatest films of all time. -

The best Western I have seen, definitely!
The acting of the three main characters was perfect and so funny at times. Especially Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach were brilliant with their face expression and all. I loved the acting more than the story :P -

A spectacular western masterpice. An instant classic. It's loaded with explosive action and breathtaking atmosphere. One of the greatest westerns ever made. Director, Sergio Leone has left his mark with his virtusso style in music, landscape, characters, mood and performances from the cast. His finest work ever as a filmmaker. One of the best directed movies of all time. Truly unforgettable and sensational. It's wildly entertaining and breathtaking. A trio of great performances. The Good is Blondie, a wandering gunman with a strong personal sense of honor. The Bad is Angel Eyes, a sadistic hitman who always hits his mark. The Ugly is Tuco, a Mexican bandit who's always only looking out for himself. Against the backdrop of the Civil War, they search for a fortune in gold buried in a graveyard. Each knows only a portion of the gold's exact location, so for the moment they're dependent on each other. However, none are particularly inclined to share
