A good old fashioned western where vigilante justice goes awry by hanging the wrong man (see also: The Ox-Bow Incident), and Bruce Dern is an unlikable a-hole (see also: The Cowboys, The War Wagon, four episodes of Gunsmoke, five episodes of The Big Valley, etc., etc., etc...).

I like this movie. It's pretty clear that this is one of those to start a different way to make Westerns. More drama than just "Shoot Em Dead"!!

An interesting 1960s revenge western with Clint trying to track down members of a lynch mob who tried to kill him.

This is one of my favorites. Whether or not you support capital punishment isn't the issue. It's the plot, the storyline, the action sequences, and of course...the soundtrack definitely makes this movie five star awesome!

so far i've only ever seen clint eastwood acting well in films he's directed himself. this is the exception to the rule. it's directed by ted post but maybe clint shines because it's his type of movie, the sort he likes to act in. the scene with the hangings of the two young lads is almost unwatchable (in the sense that it's so wrong for it to be happening) but such an effective scene

February 21, 2009
quite easily one of the greatest westerns of all time. eastwood was iconic in many westerns but this might be his best, and the story was captivating from the first moment. great dialogue and an epic feel make this a classic not to be missed.

Pretty different Eastwood cowboy flick but I still enjoyed it. Good how he actually gets beaten up and shags chicks. Pat Hingle as the sheriff is pretty awesome as well, but its Eastwood who steals the show like always.

When an innocent man barely survives a lynching, he returns as a lawman determined to bring the vigilantes to justice. Clint eastwood role as the lawman in this western times based film was great. A few parts of this film were boring because they talk too much, that is the thing I don't like about Western based films. The cast for this film were great. This film should have been made more better than this. A bit of a dissapointment for me but still a good film.

An innocent rancher is strung up by a lynch mob but recovers and becomes a lawman set on tracking down the would-be killers. Made directly after Clint's successful collaborations with Sergio Leone, this is Hollywood's attempt to cash in on his newfound fame. Unfortunately it falls short of aping the spaghetti western classics thanks to efficient but artless direction and a less than stellar supporting cast. There's a memorable appearance by Dennis Hopper in an early role but his character is all too quickly disposed of, and the film stalls at exactly the wrong moment because of a rather pointless and logic-free romantic interlude. Clint's steely eyed charisma does manage to carry it though, and there are a couple of decent sequences, but the ending felt like a TV pilot and it comes across as exactly what it is; a pale imitation of a Leone western.

This is a good movie. Clint Eastwood was hot in it so that was a bonus. The part that I really didn't like was when they were hanging those guys. :( That was pretty sad.

Usually don't like westerns, but this one moves along quite nicely. Well drawn too, it's easy to understand where the "villains" are coming from. No one here is made of cardboard.
-

I really like the western genre and Eastwood is sort of a housegod here, (among otherrs...) This is great!
-
February 15, 2008

-
February 14, 2008
Wow I've seen so many darn Clint Eastwood movies lately...whew! This one is one of the better ones actually. Heck how often do you survive your own murder and get to go after your killers. Pretty darn good for the time it was made...
