its sad when simba's dad dies, but the music's pretty good. it was based on 'hamlet', so disney was teaching us shakespeare before we could even pronounce his name!
i think this is the greatest disney animated film ever made. i normally scorn watching cartoons, but this is actually a good movie
great movie!! 'your job was to hold off the russians! THAT WAS AN ORDER!!!!'
"'happy birthday mein furher,' 'why wasnt i told about steiner's failure to hold?! why doesnt anyone tell me?! why do i have to ask?!!!'"
'you generals are a complete failure! you went to military school just to learn how to hold a fork and knife! i never went to military school, and yet i conquered almost all of europe by myself!!'
a wonderful movie!! that scene with the blind man and frankie was teh best part of the entire movie. i also liked the bride herself cuz i modeled my halloween costume after her!
'you, go live! you, stay. we belong dead'
A beautiful story. i hadnt seen it since i was 7 yrs old, and when i saw it again, cried at the end of it. i had to compare this movie to the play 'cyrano de bergerac', and there are a few similarities: the beast uses his ugliness as a shield, and the handsome stud turns out to be a total dunce.
this movie is wonderful. the music and choreography were perfect. mughal e azam is the story of prince selim and his love, the doomed anarkali. because she is a servant, she is looked down on by the upper classes. it brings to mind a sorta dysfunctional family b/c selims father, akbar, as anarkali arrested (mohabbat ke joothi-let me lament the false story of love) and sent to death, but she is saved. then selim gets a death sentance brought upon himself after rebelling against his father in a thrilling battle scene. the two lovers trade death sentances back and forth until late in the movie when anarkali buys selims life and is sentanced to die by being bricked in. its a heartbreaking tale that makes even the hardest movie fan cry (especially when anarkali sings 'bekas pe karam'-lord help me, in prison and 'god bless you selim' as she is being led to hear death). the songs will stay with you forever. a wonderful movie that will be a classic of foreign cinema forever
i heard about this movie from a friend. i saw it today when school was cancelled. it was pretty good! it reminds me of 'rambo' meets 'the good, the bad and the ugly'. i love the songs from here, and in that one song where basmati is forced to dance for gabbar in front of veeru, her dancing on the glass brought to mind the song 'teer-e-nazer' and meena kumari's performance as sabijaan in the movie 'pakeezah'. that guy who played gabban singh did a wonderful job as the villain, but i heard somewhere that there was an alternate ending in which thakur kills gabban. i couldnt find it on the dvd, but anyway, the drama was perfect and it made you want to cry when jai dies in veeru's arms. overall a wonderful movie with a wonderful soundtrack. perfect for desi lovers, but do some research into indian customs first-itll eliminate some of the confusion you get while watching it
'cornbread, collard greens, mmmm...'
i luved this movie, but it sucked that the only time i saw it wuz b/c i had to watch and do an assignment on it for history...:(
i read the book, and the movie is pretty sad, but atticus had a really wonderful speech at the end. shame racism still won over despite his beautiful closing speech
