| Star Trek - PG-13 |
Quite possibly one of the few PERFECT movies in existence. The movie has the perfect mix of stuff for the old TREK fans and people who know almost nothing about STAR TREK at all, so everyone is able to enjoy it.
Pine and Quinto were a perfect match to work side by side as Kirk and Spock and worked perfect with each other and bring refreshingly young faces to the franchise. The casting of Cho and Pegg is shear brilliance and gave the movie great laughs and action moments. Urban channels DeForrest Kelly's McCoy, containing all the old character elements while still making it his own thing. Nimoy fit into the old shoes of Spock perfectly and is probably better at it now then he was before. The only person I would have preferred to not be in the movie was Tyler Perry. I'm sorry, but the guy who dresses up as Madea should not have been allowed anywhere near this film. The story is amazing and the twists they've added will let them take the sequls anywhere they want too and promises to be AWESOME! Also I'm glad they didn't go the whole dark-background story that prequels seem to be doing lately. It proves a film can still be fun and exciting. The movie is full of the emotional intensity that I expected from something from J.J. Abrams, having been a fan of his since LOST. He did a great job with reviving STAR TREK to make it something cool once again and something everyone can enjoy and watch. Not just the guys in their mom's basement (are there any of them really living there? It has yet to be proven), but for everyone who wants to boldly go where no man has gone before and get blown away by an amazing movie. The only thing that would have made it better was if there had been Tribbles. "May I speak freely?" "I encourage it." "Are you out of your Vulcan mind?" |

| Identity - R |
A good, well crafted thriller that pulls you in and holds onto you till the end of the movie.
A great cast, with good performances from Cussack, Molina, Peet, McGinley, and the rest. Interesting story, I did find parts of this predictable, but not in a bad way. Just when you think you know what is going to happen, the movie throws something new at you and comes up with a good ending. I think this movie got overlooked when it first came out, because I can't even remember hearing about it. It's well worth a watch and has some good entertainment value. Don't expect twists on the level of M. Night, but a good mix of an interesting story and good characters. "Maybe it's the burial ground." "What?" "Read the brochure in there... it's all around us. 100 years ago the government moved these Indians here. They all died because there was no water." "And now they're coming back to life like sea monkeys, huh? Give me a break sweetheart, please." |

| The Lost Boys - R |
It's a classic 80s movie and is proof that Schumacher can make a decent movie when he wants to.
With the tons of 80s icons in this movie you think the acting could have been a tad better sometimes. The only real problem is Feldman and Newlander hamming it up and overacting in almost all their scenes, and even then that adds some good humor to the movie, so it's not a big problem really. Yet once again, just like in STAND BY ME, Sutherland proves he's great at playing the cool bad teens and gives the best performance in the whole movie. Story is decent and manages to be interesting throughout most of the film, with a few twists and humor thrown in here and there to keep you watching. It's a good movie, but not great and I'll probably not watch it again since there are some much better films from the 80s. It's worth watching at keast once however so tune in if you get the chance to vamp out. "We blew it, man, we lost it!" "Shut up!" "We unraveled in the face of the enemy!" "It's not our fault, they pulled a mind scramble on us. They opened their eyes and talked." |

| Star Wars: Holiday Special - Unrated |
I can see why Lucas is embarrassed by this film and I hope he learned a valuable lesson when it comes to letting other people handle his projects.
However I think every STAR WARS fan should see this "special" in order to have a good laugh. Whether it's at the corny dialogue, bad special "performances" or the horny old wookie who apparantly has fantasies about Diahann Carroll, it's just so bad that it comes close to being funny. Unfortunately not nearly often enough. Korman could have been the saving grace of the whole special but his talents are completely wasted in this and doesn't come very close to being funny dispite playing three differant characters. I do think the people who played Chewie's family did a good job in their roles for having to convey what their saying and thinking with zero subtitles to help us and they manage to pull it off. Carney also does a good job and looks like he took the role just seriously enough to not ruin it. Also if your "lucky" enough to find a copy with the original commercials on it then watch that one, because it's an interesting look back on 70s television. Now what else good can I say about this? Um.....Fisher isn't a bad singer.....and that's about all I can think of. The cartoon has pretty crappy animation, Hamill has WAY to much make up on (I understand that was because of his near fatal car wreck, but they should have come up with something better), the wookies have stupid names (Itchy...I rest my case), the story makes little sense at all, and it's almost 2 hours long with commercials! (can you believe that?) This is something for STAR WARS fans and fans only. They won't even like it though, but as a fan you should watch it just to see how BAD the prequels could have been. "Would you look at Lumpy! He's sure grown, huh? And I think his voice is changing." "Arrgararrggaar! " "Come on, I'm just teasing" |

| 2012 - PG-13 |
Moviegoers will be getting exactly what they expect when they see this movie and Emmerich proves once again to be the master of diaster. More devastating then INDEPENDENCE DAY and more suspenseful and epic then THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, Emmerich ends the world on an evern grander scale then ever before, but what I like about his movies is that it's not just about the world ending. They're stories about people and humanity SURVIVING. Something that couldn't be pulled off without the great actors/actresses he manages to ensemble together. Cusack, Glover, Peet. McCarthy, Harrelson, Platt, Newton, Ejiofor, and Lily (who I forsee we will be seeing a lot more of in the future) all do an outstanding job and give you characters to root for and pray they survive till the credits.
People have started to lable this movie as disaster porn, but can't seem to see past the CGI world coming to an end and notice the stories of people surviving and trying to save each other when it all comes to an end. The story is about those people who happen to be in a disaster movie. And one can only hope that most people will do that in the face of a disaster. The disaster movie formula is a simple one and Emmerich manages to follow most of the usual rules. Plenty of close calls and breath catching moments of escape. The only thing that felt over done to me was there was one too many nose diving planes pulling up at the last second. One was good, twice was fine, but three times is getting too repetative. Also the list of surivors is pretty easy to guess as is the case with most disaster movies and towards the end it seemed they started to kill people just because it was time to wrap it up and so they they ended up not give their characters good enough closer. Aldo it does start to get a little long, clocking in at close to 3 hours. So there you have it. Just a few little things that annoyed me, but that was it. Emmerich's fans will be satsfied and if you've seen any of his films then you know what to expect and you will be getting exactly that. So for now, buckle up and enjoy the ride. After all 2012 is just around the corner.... "The governor just said we're fine now." "The guy is an actor, he's reading a script. When they tell you not to panic... that's when you run!" |

| Thirteen Ghosts (13 Ghosts) - R |
I like this movie for it's sheer entertainment value. It's nowhere near being very smart or scary, but a great cast and actually creepy and well done ghosts make this movie pretty entertaining.
Lillard is always a favorite of mine and yet again plays a good eccentric, crazy character. Shalhoub and the rest of cast do a good job as well, but the real talent is the group that played the ghosts. They manage to be extremely creepy and most of the time all they do is stand there! The story is a nice remake of the original and is defintly more entertaining for a modern audience. Good characters and a decent twist towards the end makes the film watchable. The makeup effects are the most impressive though, because the ghosts look amazing and will actually scare most people. If your thinking about seeing this movie then don't take it too seriously, but don't think it's a laugh a minute either. It's what a movie should be. Full of entertainment and worth watching a few times. "There are ghosts in the basement!" "This basement?" "Of course this basement! What is it with you people? If it was the basement next door I wouldn't give a s***, would I?" |

Yet another movie that didn't really have any point to it. If it was trying to be an anti-war movie, then there is to much lunacy to take it's message seriously. Yet not enough lunacy to make it a funny movie the whole time. It could have been a LOT funnier, but unfortunately it doesn't get much funnier then what you saw in the trailers. There are some good parts and some good acting, but it's not a movie worth seeing more then once.
It has a promising plot and story, but it never quite reaches it's full potential. Clooney and Bridges do a good job and it's funny to hear them say Jedi to McGregor's face throughout the movie. McGregor is likable in the movie, but seems a little lost. So the audience will be able to identfy with him as they themselves start to wonder if the movie will be going anywhere or have a point to it before it comes to an end. It doesn't ever really say. If you really want to see it then wait and rent it. "Lieutenant Colonel Django used funds from the project's black budget to procure prostitutes..." "That's a lie!" "...and to get drugs for himself and his men." "That... well, the hooker thing is definitely a lie." |

| Scream 2 - R |
Just as much fun as the first with a great story and the same tongue in cheek humor that made the first so enjoyable.
Great characters protrayed by some great acting from the cast. Arquette, Campbell, Cox, O'Connell, Kennedy, and Olyphant all do a fantastic job of living up to the first one. Like I said the story is just as good as the humor and thrills continue on in this sequel as they poke fun at the horror genre (and themselves) while experiencing it. Though don't get me wrong, it's not all laughs. The funny stuff just comes from clever writing and the film should in no way be looked at as a comedy. There are some great serious moments and some great suspense moments all mixed into the movie revolving around characters you care about. Which is a big thing for me, cause in a horror movie if I don't care about the character's survival then what's the point in watching? Yet again it wasen't overly scary for me, but it was a bit more suspenseful then the first. The entertainment value is still there though. Craven masterfully brings Williamson's clever story to life and creates a sequel that is worth watching time and time again. Even if it's just for the great scene with O'Connell singing. "Empire Strikes Back. Better story, improved effects." "Not a sequel, part of a trilogy, completely planned." "I like the little furry things." "Ewoks? They blow." |

| Scream - R |
A great, smart slasher movie that I can watch time and time again.
Excellent story that has some great tongue in cheek humor and never takes itself too seriously. Filled with great characters (which is a must have for me in any horror/slasher/thriller movie) and great actors too protray them. Lillard, Kennedy, Ulrich, Arquette, Barrymore, McGowan, Cox, and Campbell are all superb in their roles though they do border on cheesy sometimes, but the movie is good enough to look past it. I love the Williamson's story that mixed clever writing, that any movie fan can appreciate, with some laughs and good twists and turns towards the end. Don't expect this movie to be a comedy though and don't take it too seriously either because it's somewhere in the middle. I also never really found the movie to be really scary at all, but it has a lot of entertainment value. It's my favorite "scary" movie that I recommend to everyone and is worth the watch for some good scares and a few laughs too. "There are certain RULES that one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie. For instance, number one: you can never have sex. BIG NO NO! BIG NO NO! Sex equals death, okay? Number two: you can never drink or do drugs. The sin factor! It's a sin. It's an extension of number one. And number three: never, ever, ever under any circumstances say, "I'll be right back." Because you won't be back." "I'm gettin' another beer, you want one?" "Yeah, sure." "I'll be right back!" |
