Maybe the only Michael Bay film I can watch and actually enjoy!
  • May 22, 2009
Great action film with good effects and a reasonable plot. Connery is cool for once and the gunfights rock hehe but Nic Cage sucks ass as usual. Probably Bays best film to date on his own, its explosive fun with many many great sequences. The yellow sports car gunning down the h...( read more)illy streets of San Francisco dodging trams is a great setup, the gun fight in the rocks shower room between elite cops and the terrorists, the deadly gas and sweaty finale, all popcorntastic hehe
The ending with Harris turning right at the end was decent and original, you thought he would go out guns blazing.

Fantastic 90's action. Con Air, Face/Off, Speed and The Rock are all great films we will never likely see again. With studios always chasing that PG-13 Rating even the Die Hard franchise has gone down the shitter. At least we can revel in previous examples of pure masculinity. It...( read more)'s got guns, sex, guns, fights, guns, explosions, guns, swearing, guns and cars. The Rocl throws together an unlikely duo of Connery and Cage and they work amazingly well together. They use each other for humour and serious drama moments. The other brilliant decision here is having a "villain" whose cause we admire. He takes massive crazy Hollywood steps to just get a little something. Surrounding him with subordinates of the highest caliber was also an excellent decision. For once we see a villain who we are not entirely sure will go through with his plan. It adds a sense of uncertainty as to how the story will play out. The film is also the perfect length having enough build up and pay-off. There are still a few cheesy Bay/Hollywoodisms that bring this down. Both Cage and Connery need ladies waiting for them back home. The film is filled with countless black people in minor roles that shout things such as "DAMN" and "MUTHA-FUCKER" after big action scenes. Not to mention the 50/50 ratio of cooooool action lines and dumb corny lines. The Rock is awesome. Watch the pissing thing.

Not quite the film I had expected this to be, it?s very typical of the loud Hollywood Action movies of the 80?s and 90?s, which were much more about weapons and explosions than a good storyline. Sean Connery did liven the film up somewhat, which made this bearable, but Nick Cage...( read more) was very much the Nick Cage he is in mostly every film.

    Only watchable Michael bay movie.

Some may ask: "Why Michael Bay?". And although i sort of admire the director for giving the finger to Hollywood, I have to admit that most of his movies have been a disappointment. But The Rock isn't. Ed Harris is the perfect understandable villain, and if the movie had gone deep...( read more) in his motives and inner demons instead of the action with Connery and Cage, this could have easily been nominated to Best Picture.

    Excellent action movie.

This one takes the cake for me as far as bad Michael Bay movies go. It's not bad enough to make fun of, just bad. Everything you'd want in a movie is thrown out the window with this piece of junk. I don't know where the idea of a disintegration machine came from, but it was just ...( read more)so moronic.

I have trouble taking Sean Connery seriously anymore, and the suspension of disbelief is a little high (although I guess it gets to do that because it's an action movie), but this was a decently interesting and entertaining movie. Some characters I just hated though. Can I just s...( read more)ay that?

Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail

From a helicopter's point-of-view, The Rock is just typical big American dumb fun. It's only when you look underneath at the film's underlying assumptions that you want to recoil. full review

This movie is so excellent, it's a completed movie!! I mean there is a success guns attack intrusion, a failed one, cars pursuit, many fights and shooting scenes. The soundtrack is amasing and the story is so nice. Even the hairdresser is really funny. Everything is just perfect, I'll never be bored to listen this movie.
