Adam Banjo: Please, mister. This is insane.
Otis: Boy, the next word that comes out of your mouth better be some brilliant fuckin' Mark Twain shit. 'Cause it's definitely getting chiseled on your tombstone.

Going into this, I had no idea what to expect. Its a sequel to another...( read more) movie that I had not seen at the time, both directed by Rob Zombie, where you have psychopathic killers as the main protagonists. And I loved it.

This movie is sick and twisted, and that's a very good thing. This makes me hope that Rob Zombie continues to make movies. He takes the style of old 70s grindhouse horror moives (Texas Chainsaw is a clear influence) and comes up with something new.

This is a movie about villains, they are both pro and antagonists. The movie is full of very very dark humor, amidst the mayhem, and lots of swearing and violence, yet you keep wanting to see what happens. Of course it's not for everyone, but who cares, I enjoyed the hell out of it.

    Candy: What you lookin' at?
Otis B. Driftwood: I'm lookin' at you, mama.
Candy: Yeah, you see something you like?
Otis B. Driftwood: Maybe. I set my standards pretty low, so I'm never disappointed.

The plot surrounds this family of killers, on the run from the law after their hideout has been raided. We follow a few days in their lives as they take hostages and seek refuge from an old friend, while a cop bent on killing them is hot on their trail.

Beneath these sick characters there is actually a lot of good performances here. There is a lot involved in making killers likable characters that you want to succeed to a certain extent. There are also a number of supporting genre actors like Ken Foree and Danny Trejo to fill the screen.

Mixing the macabre with the gritty cinematography, and a country rock 70s soundtrack, this is a good thriller to enjoy.

Captain J.T. Spaulding: What's the matter, kid? Don't ya like clowns?
    Jamie: [shakes head crying]
Captain J.T. Spaulding: Why? Don't we make ya laugh? Aren't we fuckin' funny? You best come up with an answer, cos I'm gonna come back here and check on you and your momma and if you ain't got a reason why you hate clowns, I'm gonna kill your whole fucking family.
    Jamie: [continues crying]
Captain J.T. Spaulding: All right, now get your fuckin' ass out the car, go on yayayayayaya
    [starts laughing]

This movie has some classic ingredients for a great horror movie. Interesting characters, some really vile gore scenes, bad language, unnecessary nudity, and some familiar faces; Leslie Easterbrook (from the Police Academy movies), Ken Foree (the original Dawn Of The Dead), 80's ...( read more)pop singer/actress E.G. Daily and Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) provide more than enough nostalgia for retro junkies, like myself.

The story isn't overly fast paced but the gore can be thick and pretty relentless and is at times implied rather than shown which I think adds to the experience. I really enjoyed Leslie Easterbrook as Mother Firefly (replacing Karen Black who was in the first movie, House Of 1000 Corpses). She does some wonderful overacting in her scenes, it's a shame she wasn't in it more, same goes for E.G. Daily who plays a sassy hooker. In fact everyone was great in their parts, let's face it this is not Shakespeare - this is a horror movie, I for one demand hammy over the top performances and a bit of camp! I don't want to give anything away but I will say my favourite scenes involved Mother Firefly and the sheriff, and Captain Spaulding and a mother and child. If you enjoyed House Of 1000 Corpses, this is a superior sequel in my mind and you wont be disappointed. If your idea of horror is a glossy PG-13 rated remake you might want to try weaning yourself onto this kind of movie with something a little less extreme.

Two members of the Firefly family of serial killers improbably escape a police raid by sneaking out the back door and go on an abduction and torture spree. HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES was a spectacular failure, but at least you could laugh at it; the sequel is just a sick, slick, soul...( read more)less and pointless torture montage.

Part crime drama/part horror show. Zombie's most complete film.

Get ready to be Rob Zombified once more!

The Devils Rejects - More action than horror, nonetheless very entertaining. This is a continuation of the story from Rob Zombies first film "House of 1000 Corpses", if you jump right in and watch this without watching the first film you...( read more) might not really understand or even like anything about it.

Anyway like I said, the story carries out from the first film and now the Firefly family finds themselves in trouble from a justice seeking Sherrif.

Dirty, Dark, Brutal, Twisted & Sadistic. Very retro filming, Very awesome directing and very, unequally disturbing.

    STRICTLY FOR MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY

oooh rob zombie your gore is amazing!!
  • November 20, 2009
Okay, this is better than HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, but that's not necessarily a compliment. I always get the idea that Rob Zombie REALLY wants to make a certain kind of film and ends up making another, lesser, vanilla version. CORPSES was meant to be a down & dirty 70s-style horror...( read more) film, and finished up as a campy, unfunny, 90s-style extended music video. Similarly, REJECTS wants so badly to be a gritty 70s-style exploitation film -- admittedly, it is closer to the mark than CORPSES was -- but ultimately ends up looking like a 90s direct-to-DVD crime dud with some 70s influence. It just meanders its way to the end with characters you couldn't give a toss about, and the DVD menu is scarier than anything in the film. If CORPSES was meant to be Zombie's TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, then REJECTS (particularly with its vengefully psychotic sheriff) is clearly his TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2... which, if you've seen it, you'll know is absolutely the wrong template for, well, anything. For a guy that's so devoted to horror films, you would think he'd know how to make one.

This movie was great. I really had a different view of Rob Zombie after watching this one.
  • November 16, 2009
A seamless blend of the horror/western genre. This movie is about one thing, the worst in people. No one has a true sense of good nature in them, even the police force is run by maniacal white trash. I loved the shift of the Firefly Family into outlaw action stars, it's fun to se...( read more)e the roles change. They still had that disturbed nature to them, which is what set them apart in the first place. The film making is amazing, it's stylized to fit the tone of the story.

[A] catalogue of loving references to lowlife gore films of the past ... all-encompassing sarcasm and general screw-you attitude lift (or sink) the movie to another level. full review

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Indefensible on a moral level, Rob Zombie's perversely watchable follow-up to his much-reviled cult hit House of 1000 Corpses is loaded with filmmaking energy. full review

Kyle Smith, New York Post

This is a perfect B-movie, full of wicked dread. full review

Ty Burr, Boston Globe

Rob Zombie proves he's a filmmaker to be taken seriously -- or at least not to be considered a total joke -- but he still hasn't figured out how to fashion something more than the sum of his enthusiasms. full review

A kind of heedless zeal transforms its horrors. The movie is not merely disgusting, but has an attitude and a subversive sense of humor. full review

Colin Covert, The Minneapolis Star Tribune

It is grim, unrelenting and savage, and it is destined to become a genre classic. After seeing this one, you won't just lock your doors, you'll nail planks over your windows. full review

This is a fantastic movie - I wont argue that. But can everybody STOP calling it a horror movie! It's more of a crime thriller than anything - it's not even close to horror.
    Zombie himself declares that.
