Van Wilder wasn't quite convincing. The relationships between the characters weren't at least. Roof escapes: brilliant! Pick axe deaths I can get used to though, Descent... Bloody Valentine...

"Katch 'em, kill 'em"
On December 18, 1975, George and Kathy Lutz along with their children moved into a house in the legendary Amityville, New York. It would have been their dream home...if their dreams were nightmares. Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George co-star in this ...( read more) -

I can't believe I initially liked this movie. Make no mistake, Amityville '05 is an absolutely abysmal remake. Slaughtering the original, it effectively removes every detail that made the '79 film effective, and offers nothing new in return. Most of the weak scares don't even ...( read more)

An extremely well done remake that captures the visual style of the original. It was a giant surprise to see that Ryan Reynolds actually has a range of acting ability. The story was done just as much justice this time around and the characters were even more believable.

This one was really creepy but even though Ryan Reynolds was psycho... yup, still hot. And shirtless.

Movie was ok, edge of your seat kinda stuff. Ryan Reynolds played his character well, the ending was very predictable.
Critic Reviews
The problem with The Amityville Horror is that, in a very real sense, there's nothing there. full review
A smorgasbord of strobe lights, screeching soundtrack noises, and silly specters. full review
I wasn't shocked by The Amityville Horror, or outraged by it: I felt nothing but disdain. full review
In theory, this should all be scary, but it just isn't. You giggle at the B-movie cheesiness of it. full review
This house springs so many FX shocks it plays like a theme-park ride. Result? It's not scary, just busy. full review
In this Amityville, the performances are bad, the special effects ho-hum, and it's not even particularly scary. full review
If they scare up enough business to perpetuate this sort of retread, that will be the real horror. full review

July 28, 2006I bought this expecting to be utterly terrified to the core, and while i wasnt as scared as i thought i would be, im suprised i can still sleep at night. I dont usually like true stories but ghost ones catch my interest, and the fact that this really happened (apparantly, we dont really know but i believe in ghosts) added to the aura of the movie. It is quite creepy and will have you watching your own four walls very suspiciously.
