Beautiful and heartbreaking underseen film. Simple yet enchanting cinematography, a nuanced performance by Maria Schell and Marcello's most underrated. Easily the Visconti film that's stayed with me the most.

The cinematography and set pieces really help enhance this simple (and very heartbreaking) love story

after I saw this movie, I cried for an hour. A truly love lost story.

The never-ending story of the dreamer who's in love with an ideal and the poor person who's in love with the dreamer. Must he try to wake her up to make her happy or must she uncover her misconceptions by herself to stop the dream?

A fantastic movie, it really is the most beautiful black & white photography I've seen and the acting and the dialogue is sublime, a very beautiful movie.
