A dark and hard-charging big-screen comeback for the Dark Knight. Christian Bale IS Batman.
  • September 14, 2009
Christopher Nolan hits the nail on the head. Batman is back, he's dark, he's a bloody schizophrenic! and he's the perfect anti-hero! A much needed reboot goes well. The cast are perfect (Apart from Holmes but that is soon rectified in the next film)

Thank God that the Batman franchise was rebooted. Everything after Batman Returns was misguided and wrong. Batman Begins is the DC equivalent of the first Spider-man movie. It establishes the the charachter in a way that's interesting and true to what has made that character so ...( read more)popular for so many years.

Besides Katie Holmes' character and a running time that's just a bit too long, I didn't find much to complain about with this movie. The choice of villians was great, Gotham looks good, and Christian Bale makes a great Batman/Bruce Wayne. Batman Begins isn't just a good superhero movie, it's simply a good movie.

Director Christopher Nolan took this almost dead franchise and blew a breath of fresh air into it. It just flew in out of nowhere and blew everyone away as far as how much better it was than anyone thought a Batman film could be again. The choice to cast one of the best actors wo...( read more)rking today, Christian Bale, as the dark knight was pure genius and it doesn't hurt that we have the likes of Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, and Michael Caine supporting him. This will always be remembered as the film that effectively saved this much loved character's life.

An excellent and mind-blowing film in every way. The story is absorbing and characters are flawless. A breathtaking and adreniline-pumping epic. You wont belive what you see. A hugely entertaining, sophisticated, intelligent and unforgettable movie. A brilliant and superb cast top-notch performances. Christian Bale is teriffic. Michael Caine is marvelous. Liam Neeson is magnificent. Cillian Murphey is fantastic. Gary Oldman is excellent. Tom Wilkonson is brilliant. Morgan Freeman is simply great.

Nolan takes the campy comic book hero of Burton's movies (let alone those botched attempts in between) and transports Batman into the present, which is dense, bleak and not funny at all. Christian Bale again lets his infinite pool of anger and hatred ooze of the silverscreen and ...( read more)turns a franchise (just like Terminator) into the story of one man turning one-man-gang and vigilante. The prequel to the Batman setting nicely rounds up the character, deepening his inner drive and motivation, casting the much needed shadow of broodyness on the Dark Knight. Thus, both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight introduce the core philosophy of a vengeance seeking crusader into franchise, moral ambiguity, the question of right and wrong and the ultimate goal of justice. While Batman begins does not take these issues as far as The Dark Knight, is does a good job of making Batman a far more interesting character than in Burton's movies, playing off the man that is Bruce Wayne and the idea that is Batman off against each other nicely. Michael Caine adds a touch of class to the movie and his screen presence decorates the movie even further, despite his "small" role, which is not small at of course. Liam Neeson does a good job although he looks way to nice and cuddly to be truly menacing, and Nolan would have done better to cast an actor more capable of filling the role of the villain and of Wayne's nemesis. Cillian Murphy shows off his unique face and his faerielike beauty takes a turn for the eerie in his portrayal of Scarecrow. Katie Holmes is decoration, like most women in American mainstream cinema. It is a shame Elfman's theme did not make it back to the movie (at least not audible).

    God stuff.

This was an awesome movie!!! I loved it! We rented it 1 week ago and I've watched it 3 times already!

Batman has always seemed to make great viewing and with the darker takes on him of the past to decades, great movies. This was a real treat though. It's almost rational take on an irrational super hero. Many of his trates had become figures of fun and jokes, but this movie succes...( read more)sfully explains away the fact that he can keep this double a life a secret and that he's up all night and nobody seems to care! Chris Nolan has managed to give Batman a human face and the world he inhabits a sense of scale and realism. But that's not to say though that it lacks a sense of the theatrical...

    Review:

After Joel Schumacher killed my favorite superhero with Batman e Robin in 1997,i felt dissapointed for the disrespect of the Dark Knight´s true image and i was missing the dark and tortured hero that is still here for almost 70 years since his creation. When i heard that a new Batman movie was being made,i was very happy to see my hero back into the big screen but this time showing how Bruce Wayne becomes the Dark Knight of Gotham City.

Batman Begins is an amazing movie and a masterpiece as well. This movie truly honors the legacy of Batman and shows how the Batman should be represented in the big screen for all his fans(including myself). There are no words to describe how proud i am of this amazing and wonderfull movie.

Christian Bale is absolutely amazing as Batman /Bruce Wayne.Bale is indeed a great choice to the role because he is used to play phsycological characters as Patrick Bateman of American Phsyco.Bale makes Bruce Wayne a believable and tortured person but also he makes Batman a darker, intense and scary character as well.It was easy for him to follow the footsteps of Michael Keaton.Bale was oustanding and he IS Batman at my opinion.I loved Liam Nesson as Ducard. He was very important on Bruce´s training.Liam Neeson is one of best actors ever and this is one of the best roles of his career but i was shocked when he revealed himself as Ras Al Ghul, one of Batman´s greatest enemies.Sir Michael Caine was oustanding as Alfred,Gary Oldman was even better as Jim Gordon and also a realistic character and Morgan Freeman was great as he usually is.Cilian Murphy was freaking scary as the Scarecrow. He was a great villain.Katie Holmes was very lame as Rachel Dawes.I like Maggie Gyllenhall more then her.

Christopher Nolan is one of the most brilliant directors around today. He brought back the Batman back:dark, tortured and believable, just like Tim Burton did at 1989 but Nolan gave a more urban and realistic vision to Batman and all the characters but maintaining the dark enviroment and respecting the spirit of the comics.

As much i love the Dark Knight,Batman Begins is an oustanding masterpiece and Batman is now reborned and back when he belongs.I hope to see more of my favorite superhero in the big screen.Thank you,Nolan and Bale.

This film sucked! And The Dark Knight probably will too. Bring back Mr.Burton you fools!! The first hour is good, but the Batman action scenes in this film were so overly homosexual, I didn't know whether to throw up or laugh. A disaster of a film as far as this old school Batman fan is concerned. This is the second worst Batman film ever made.

Batman: The Movie (1966) 3 stars

    Batman (1989) - 4 and a half stars

    Batman Returns - 3 stars

Batman Forever - 2 and a half stars

    Batman & Robin - 1 and a half stars

    Batman Begins - 2 stars

The last batman movies seemed to have been adapted from the cartoon shows on WB Kids. This version of Batman however, & let me just say this is the best version, takes on a realism that other comic book movies don't have. Or perhaps it is the fact that the filmmakers weren't targeting child audiences. Whatever the reason, this movie rocks!!!

    ''Are you ready to begin?''

Like it's title, the beginning truly is the masterpiece. Liam Neeson & Christian Bale show how deep a man with a dark side that needs a destiny can be.

DC Comics was, for a long time, criticized about not starting an Ultimate comics line of their own when Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men became huge hits. Ironically, however, this movie is everything an Ultimate Batman would have to have been: a perfect distillation of the character's origins and motivations, but set in a contemporary timeline and featuring streamlined continuity (such as the paired-down portrayals of Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow). And yes, I am a massive geek.

Now if only Warner Brothers would follow this example with the rest of the characters in the DCU for their own feature film endeavors!
